WebSphere Portal

portlet is temporarily disabled

Ok, I'm almost there with my first portlet. I created my own HelloWorld and
installed it succesfully. I gave everyone permissions to view, edit,
manage. I created a page and loaded my portlet onto it. I also put the
supplied HelloWorld there too.
There's works fine, mine says:
Not available
This portlet is temporarily disabled
Not sure why I am getting this error. I did activate it and everything
seems fine. Any ideas?
Is the class file located in the correct place?

Hey Scott,
Thanks for the response...
Yeah, I assume it is. I duplicated the directory structure from the
samples.
I have the following subfolders in the following directory
..\wpsapp\web\WEB-INF\portletapps\HelloWorldNeil
PORTLET-INF\
portlet.xml
lib\
HelloWorldPortlet.jar
Jar file contains HelloWorld.class in the path com\avaya\wps\helloworld\
and manifest.mf in meta-inf\
My par file resides in deployablePortlets and contains:
manifest.mf in meta-inf\
portlet.xml in portlet-inf\
HelloWorldPortlet.jar in PORTLET-INF\lib\
strange that portlet.xml has PORTLET-INF in lowercase. Not sure why, but
the admin reads the xml fine.
My HelloWorld is really simple, just copied what was in the programming
guide so, it has like 3 lines of code in it.

Did you activate the Portlet after installation of the PAR-file?
To get a portlet working you need to do four things:
1. Install PAR-file in WPS
2. Activate Portlet in WPS
3. Grant Access-rights to Portlet
4. Place portlet on a page.
If you didn't perform step 2 you can proceed with steps 3 and 4 but the
portlet is still "inactive"
Activation of a portlet is done on the administration-page with the "Portlet
Application Administration"-portlet.
I hope this helped,

Marco,
Yeah, I did activate it and the admin shows it as activated. I just put in
some debugging stmts everywhere, but I never get them in the log file. I do
see logging from the sample I also placed on my page, so I know it is
enabled.
Can't seem to find any error messages anywhere. Kinda strange.
thanks,

I believe that it might be alright to have the class files in a jar within
lib; although I don't do it myself. I think that there are other problems
with the code that Neil is working with. I am sure he will get it working!

There are two possibilities for packaging our own class-files with your
portlet.
1. Create a directory classes in the PORTLET-INF and store all the classes
your portlet uses there in a hierachical structure like the class-tree.
(example PORTLET-INF/classes/nl/virgilSI/portlets/helloworld.class)
2. Create a helloworld.jar witch contains the
nl.virgilSI.portlets.helloworld.class and store that in PORTLET-INF/lib
In both cases the <portlet-class> in the portlet.xml should be
nl.virgilSI.portlet.helloworld
If you use <portlet-class>helloworld</portlet-class> then the file should be
stored in the PORTLET-INF/classes directory

Hari,
Whenever you deploy the portlets in a clustered environment, the portlets need to be manually activated.
You need to run the script
./WPSconfig.sh activate-portlets
This step activates portlets as well as causes the deployment manager to synchronize the changes across all the cluster members.
Cheers,
Rajender Sriramoju
